Staying in tune with consumers and fans is always a top priority.

Jet Jaguar, a grinning pseudo-Ultraman robot, only made one appearance in a Godzilla movie, as an ally to Godzilla in 1973's Godzilla vs. Megalon. But the character was brought back recently in a new Netflix anime series, sparking a revival of fan interest - so I knew that featuring him in this shirt would be an instant hit. 

A personal obsession - combining text with illustration.

Using the horrific, mutated creatures from the movie to construct the film's iconic title treatment, this piece of official merchandise for The Thing was a showstopper once it was brought to life by the incredible Leslé Kieu.

Sometimes what the fans really deserve is the last thing they’d expect.

2016's Japanese Godzilla reboot Shin Godzilla has easily the most unnerving, grotesque visuals of any Godzilla movie.  One beloved incarnation of Godzilla from this movie is Kamata-kun, a googly-eyed, half-baked Worm-zilla who clumsily slithers around Tokyo, gushing blood from its gills. And so - Kamata-kun of course deserves a very cute pink & blue tie-dye hoodie with shiny bubble lettering! Fans loved it.

Many official Army of Darkness shirts have been made over the years, but as a life-long fan of this movie, I knew that I'd never seen one featuring the infamous "mirror scene." 

My apologies to Bruce Campbell for the slightly unflattering sketch, but it was brought to life vividly by the great Yannick Bouchard. 

I can art direct at any stage in the process - but for me, what really makes an apparel piece special is starting from a strong concept. I often like to sketch out a design idea and then have one of my favorite artists bring it to life! Here are a few examples.

One of my favorite aspects of designing apparel is finding new artists to collaborate with.

For this official Godzilla franchise shirt featuring Rodan, the gigantic mutated Pterosaur - I wanted to find a paleoartist, specializing in anatomically accurate dinosaur illustrations. I lucked out with  Corbin Rainbolt, who realized this concept beautifully.

Navigating the world of licensing approvals and official merchandise can be tricky - but I’ve got plenty of experience.

This concept was one that pushed against the boundary of the parent company's typical submissions (because it's a reference to the one scene in Godzilla history where the Big G actually speaks).

What does the perfect design need? The perfect blank.

This front/back concept I created for official JAWS merchandise was expertly executed by Anthony Petrie. But I knew that in order for it to connect with customers the right way, it'd need an appropriate piece of apparel - and this summery red & white ringer worked like a charm.
